Twitter has been used to engage with fans and followers for years, but since we know that most of these people aren’t in advertising, what are they using these services for? In fact most brands are using Twitter to spread brand awareness. Being able to drive sales for their product isn’t important to marketers when using Twitter.
A chart created by Statista on Mashable shows the top seven reasons why brands are using Twitter. 79.4% of those surveyed are using Twitter to increase brand awareness with Driving traffic coming in as a close second with 58%.
Building brand awareness on Twitter is quite simple, here are a couple tips that will help you get started:
- If you want to gain exposure on Twitter you must keep yourself on the “public timeline” so everyone sees your tweets.
- Use the “Find other people” or “search“ tool on Twitter. You can type a name or a particular concept such as branding, culture, marketing, etc. This can be huge if you are typing in people in your industry and then find others that are following them. It opens up your reach significantly within your targeted industry or area of interest.
- Post Tweet updates on the regular. Share your knowledge and information about your brand, but don’t bombard people with it. Make sure your posts are relevant and something that will interest that will help people such as case studies, business events, and key ideas. Also, don’t forget to provide links to the information.
- Make your Tweets understandable, inviting, compelling and informative. You want to attract the right people to follow your account. Speak to them be original and make sure it contains content that is of interest to the consumer.
- Use Hashtags (#). By using the hashtag symbol before a subject (e.g. #timhortons) in your update. This allows the search engines and others who use Twitter to find your updates on a subject.
At Raven5, we use Twitter and other social platforms to build followings for our clients. We can come in contact with people who are interested in your product.
