Blogs > Facebook – the SEND Button

The changes keep coming and now Facebook has introduced the “SEND” button. The send button is the newest way for friends to share information privately to individuals or groups.
As I see it, the send button is Facebook’s version of email, a private communication for users. If you consider things, it’s a big step for Facebook whose basic communication was all about sharing in the public stream. The send button will be a welcome benefit to users, now information can be shared either publically or privately. Certainly this change will lead to some very big changes in the way we communicate on Facebook.
You can find information on the Facebook Developers Blog, “The Send Button, Because Sometimes it’s Private”. I believe it will certainly impact how we communicate and the use of email. This will elimate steps while saving time looking up email addresses, cutting and copying information from facebook to your email program.
PCMag.com indicated that the launching of the Send button could be the end of the Like button. An interesting view “Facebook Launches “Send” Button; Is the “Like” Button Dead?”
It’s my opinion that the “Send” button and the “Like” button will both survive as they have very different uses. As noted, I believe this new Facebook feature will have much more impact in terms of email. Facebook will continue to have it’s public face, and now users have the ability to communicate in private. This will have a huge impact on usage as things progress on the Facebook front.
As your digital agency, we see Facebook as a very viable marketing and communication vehicle for your brand and your business. Adding a touch of privacy only enhances the features and therefore, in my estimation Facebook’s continued growth in the digital space.
