Nothing is stable these days, just as we think we have mastered one area, the ground moves to the newest technology. As your digital agency part of our task is to keep you apprised of the changing landscape.
Email to your computer’s email account is still the largest communication vehicle online. Although there is stability in email marketing, there are indications that email is changing to mobile email.
What is mobile email? The Wikipedia explanation is simple and clear. Why is this an issue? I’ll tell you why … web based (computer based) email is on the decline, not lots, just 6% drop year over year. At the same time, mobile email increased a whopping 36%. The main reason for this shift is that users are moving to mobile devices with propensity. The data as provided by comScore.
Smartphone users are growing at a staggering rate, as well. Smartphone technology is getting faster and faster with more and more options. Users are moving to mobile email, social media, instant messaging, and texting because they can communicate ANY PLACE AND ANY TIME.
Online Media Daily quotes Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook fame as saying, “We don’t think a modern messaging system is going to be email”
That being said email marketing is still strong, and it is the most popular web activity reaching 70% of the US online population. Interestingly enough as pointed out in the OMD article mobile email reached 78% of users.
The takeaway on this is that mobile technology is changing the landscape at an incredible pace and we suggest that our clients continue to use and develop their email marketing skills. Email marketing is effective at delivering your message, both at home on your computer or on the road on your Smartphone, this trend will continue.
We’ll just have to wait and see exactly what the next messaging system will be.
