Blogs > The Continued Rise of Blogging
December 7, 2010 Michael Bickerton
Imagine, as you read this … that over half of Internet users will read blogs at least monthly. By 2014, emarketer anticipates that 60% of the Internet population will be reading blogs.
As your digital agency, we have suggested and continue to suggest that you need to build your digital footprint by contributing to a blog. Content is king and is one way to ensure that you build a following by blogging.
According to emarketer, readership will grow from 45% of Internet users in 2008 to 60% of Internet users in 2014. They suggest, “Over time, blogs will continue to become indistinguishable from other media channels” … now that’s quite a statement, blogs standing next to Facebook and television.
Blog writing is still considered a niche activity (so thanks for reading), with only 12% of the online population writing or updating blogs. It’s anticipated that this will barely increase to just over 13% in 2014.
What’s driving the continued rise of blogging? Basically, it’s the ease of use of personal blogging platforms and a growing comfort level with blogs as a form of media and information. Blogging is not the primary way for people to express their thoughts online, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have encouraged microblogging.
Our take as your digital agency – we recommend you build and contribute to a blog. Blogging is a tremendous way to provide current and valuable information to your clients, prospects & fans; you can utilize the social media as an accelerant.
