Thinking of a way to increase brand impressions? Want a way to increase your client base? Interested in advertising a product or service? Why not run an online contest? It’s the perfect way to:
During the development phase, keep in mind that your Contest Rules are very important, in order to protect you and your business. Here are some tips to consider, when writing your contest rules:
This includes your business information, the information regarding entry and prizes, as well as any disclaimers (such as protection against “lost” or “spam” entries).
Unfortunately most Canadian companies will choose to exclude Quebec in their contests… This is because, in general, most provinces have similar rules. In Quebec, the “Regie” is responsible in overseeing contests, sweepstakes and promotions.
If you’re considering running your contest in the US, keep in mind each state has their own set of “rules” to follow.
These days, it’s quite easy to forget that Canada has it’s own anti-spam legislation. If you plan to contact people who have entered your contest, remember to ask for permission to contact them. Check out more information about the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation, and some more information from RAVEN5 about CASL.
There are lots to consider for sure. If you want to read up on your more legal concerns, check out the Canadian Advertising Law website, and a great article about how to Avoid Running Afoul of the Law.
