At point of this writing I’m assuming that you are certain that a blog is something that you need to have, and something you need to do and you are clear about the importance today of having a blog. If not please go to our earlier blogs about blogging.
I came across a great article by HubSpot’s Dan Zarrelia and his SlideShare presentation “The Science of Blogging’. Very informative and certainly well worth the review. The full article is titled “10 Common Business Blogging Questions Answered”.
Issues reviewed are; How do you drive traffic to your blog? What has a greater impact on seo: blog links or link building strategies? Trigger words, using the Like, Send & Re Tweet buttons, How to handle comments, contact forms, Time, Bylines for various bloggers, Blog Platforms and examples.
The article is effective and informative.
There are a couple of issues I agree and several I don’t, as you would expect.
Time, absolutely I agree, I spend approximately 3 to 5 hours a week writing the Raven5 Blog, and I write in an effort to keep you informed. Our team gets a ton of information and our goal is to provide you with the basics and urge you to get started.
Trigger words and calls to action, I question somewhat, and the reason is the blog in my view isn’t really a sales tool. So I want you to be careful here. It’s not something that you want people to feel they are being sold or pushed.
Another example, Hubspot suggests that blogging platforms such as WordPress, Blogger or Tumblr are the way to go. I don’t agree with this perspective at all. It’s my opinion that the best blog is part of your website for a number of reasons. Traffic, seo, content and relevancy are key reasons to keep a blog, and linking those factors to your blog and website can only improve your organic rank.
The take away on this, do your homework, do some reading, get going, get started and then go to next steps. Your digital agency should be able to assist you in building your blog and your blog strategy. If not call us we can help!
